Introduction

This publication actually should have been called "Walking the Torah," since it wrappings the Five Books of Moses and is in writing from a mainly Jewish perspective. I presume the trading persons sensed that "Bible" would have a broader sales apply or something. Be that as it may, the most intriguing thing about this publication was the deep change in mind-set that the excursion conveyed to the author himself. No, he didn't "get religion" and run off become an Orthodox Jew. However, he did gain a new admiration for the Bible tales themselves, as well as the diverse persons and locations that the Bible describes.

By his own admission, Bruce Feiler was a secular/Reform Jew who begun out easily liking to attach to the personal locations cited in the Torah, i.e., to literally stroll where his ancestors had walked. At first, Feiler considered of the Bible as a sort of Baedekers journey guide. He expended most of his groundwork time reading annals, geography, and archaeology. Once he got on the street, although, he shortly found out that the Bible is furthermore "in the people" (his words). Whether they are factual believers of numerous beliefs or secularists who glimpse the Bible as publications, the persons who really reside in these biblical positions have a deep, nearly mystical attachment to the land itself -- a bond which proceeds after only occupying a specific part of genuine estate. Feiler increased to have this inward know-how, too. As he himself interprets, somewhere along the line he halted conceiving of The Book as a journey direct, and begun glimpsing it as The Bible.
