Introduction

A teacher has many roles and responsibilities that stem from the fact that they have been employed to a very sensitive and serious position. Not only are they teaching students, but also what they teach will matter a lot to the children in the long run. The first and foremost responsibility is that the education of the students. Their role is accountable for ensuring that the students receive the best possible standard of education.

The role of teachers encompasses a wide arena of goals. They need to start with setting higher expectations which would then be inspiring and motivating their students. This needs to be attained through various measures. The commencing point would be ensuring that a safe environment is provided to the students in which they can learn. The environment needs to be conducive to the process of learning. Goals need to be ascertained that would prove to be challenging to students of all backgrounds. The students need to be trained for displaying positive values, attitudes and behaviours which would be strengthening their academic career (www.education.gov.uk).

This paper provides a critical literature review of the Vogt, F and Twigg suggestions regarding the role of teachers. Vogt suggested that caring among teachers can be related with continuum in support of ethnic care, as moral perspective which is the responsibility of the teachers. Twigg has suggested that teachers play the role as a facilitator of social justice. However, there are different perceptions of authors in support of different roles conducted by the teacher.

Different roles and responsibilities are enjoyed by teachers for building a healthy education system accompanied with social justice in the educational environment along with ethical role performed by them.

Vogt and Twigg have explained different thoughts regarding the roles of teachers. According to Vogt, the role that teachers need to play is that of promoting good progress and outcomes by the pupil. Their role is accountable for making sure that students are able to attain progress and good outcomes in their education. This gives rise to the need for the teachers being aware of the student's capabilities and their former knowledge. They need to make a plan for building on these outcomes. This can only be achieved if they constantly are guiding he students to realize the importance of the progress that they need to make and the needs that are to be met. Vogt has agreed that this role is attainable if the teachers through their role are able to demonstrate a clear knowledge and understanding regarding the learning of the students. Side by side, the teachers must always be preparing the students to take a responsible approach towards their studies (Vogt, 2002, pp 252-253).
