1.0 Introduction

The purpose of this report is to analyse my personal experience in a private fitness club This portfolio will discuss the inter-relationships between the different elements of the service system that will be explored, demonstrating the effect of any inconsistency in the service system that has no overall effectiveness of the service experience on consumers. The overall aim of the report is to evaluate the services of this business and examine whether there is the desired seamless and consistent integration between the elements in their service system.

1.3 Personal expectation

This paper will concentrate on my learning experiences and observations from my school days, through to my military education. I will discuss key areas of learning and will endeavour to identify and critique any events that have had specific impact on me as a learner.

To work in a health and fitness firm in a managerial capacity.

1.5 Background

By the sheer fact that I have few memories of pre school and primary education suggests that early school was neither stimulating nor memorable. However, I do recall playing and drawing at some stage. Vygotsky (1978) suggests that drawing and playing should be preparatory stages in the development of children's written language.

It now appears that I was inadvertently being prepared for future learning and was developing the foundation for my future education.

1.6 is necessary to identify the type of service offering that fitness clubpresents, as this will be indicative of the framework to which the service system functions. Fitness club is a 'people processing' service, where the service is directed at people's bodies. Thus it is inevitably a high-contact service, as customers need to be physically present throughout service delivery in order to receive the desired benefits of such services (Lovelock et al., 2004). It is necessary to identify the type of service offered by fitness club.

The service processes are predominately intangible as membership only entitles customers to use the facilities and equipment, receive advice and attend classes; members never take any ownership over any tangible items. The end result of the service may become apparent in their own personal physique and energy levels as they strive toward their fitness goals.

The nature of this service also demands a high degree of individual customisation, as clients will differ in their ability, needs and goals, so too must the service being offered. Fitness club is also a continuous service as membership entitles customers to on-going use of the services and facilities for a period of time. In this regard, members can become familiar with the club overtime and develop realistic expectations of the value and levels of service performance
