Alcon introduces the latest advancement in refractive technology: the Wave Light ® Refractive Suite. The world's fastest refractive platform allows a safe, efficient, and customized treatment for your patients. Alcan Inc. has acquired through its subsidiary Alcan Airex in Sins, Switzerland patents and know-how for foamable PET (polyethylene terephthalate) technology from the Italian group Mossi & Ghisolfi. This is the global availability of PET-based foam core materials are guaranteed for the growing composites, packaging and other industrial markets. Details of the transaction were not disclosed (Borg,1989).

According to Pierre Monéton, president of Core Materials, Alcan Composites, whether Alcan with the exclusive rights to this technology is capable of, the innovation of new base materials for PET-based wind energy, marine and transportation markets worldwide continue. So, in accordance with the shared service vision, services used by all the business groups would be centralized and provided by shared service centers. According to Alcan executives, this strategy would promote the development of expertise, connections among projects, optimal use of specialists, reuse, negotiations with suppliers, standardization of practices and norms, and generalized economies of scale (Awad, 2010). While supporting the individual and ongoing development of the business groups without disrupting their activities, the implementation strategy was aimed at progressively shifting responsibilities, applications, infrastructure, personnel and processes to the shared service centers.

A new IT management team and major restructuring of activities combined with global skills development encouraged Alcan to take back control in this area.
