Introduction

The paper is related to the awareness, extent and nature of business continuity among managers; however, the particular focuses of the paper to discuss the statistical methods used to get the results of the study. The reason is that it is important and imperative to use appropriate statistical methods as it shows how accurate the results of study are.

Discussion

The study conducted by Chartered Management Institute is based on the analysis of past statistics that is 1999, 2001 and 2002. However, the analysis can be done differently which will be more appropriate and will provide more reliable results to the study. The reason of this statement is that the comparison of the percentages relating to the phenomena that are frequency with which organizations rehearse their BCP, disruptions covered by business continuity plans, regulatory mechanisms most favored by managers for encouraging, business continuity management and extent of fears about organizational disruption from 1999 to 2002, can be analyzed in different way. As the statistical test can be applied to the factors or the variables under consideration, in which years can be compared with each other which will yield comparison of the past years with each other.

In the report of awareness, extent and nature of business continuity among managers conducted by Chartered Management Institute, analysis of variance test could be applied which could provide more reliable results to the study. The analysis of variance is a statistical test to verify that several samples are from the same population. This test applies when measuring one or more categorical variables which are called factors of variability then, their different modalities are sometimes called “levels” that have influence on the distribution of a continuous variable to explain (Cooper and Weekes, 2005).
