Introduction

In the blooming era of www, there is a noteworthy increase in technological advances. In the battle of technological advances and adaptation to it, the frontline for education system has changed over last few decades. Instead of the initial struggle of access to the information, our education system is constantly involved in struggle to gain attention. The technological advances has pushed us out from information deficit but now our education system is suffering from attention deficit. Attention of students within the class room has been greatly reduced by the access to technological commodities. Access to cell phones within the class has been identified as one of the most problematic concern by the teachers (Looi, Jonassen and Ikeda, 2005). Certainly it gives perspective on the question of whether to allow cell phones in the classroom.

Discussion

While our education system is already suffering from attention deficit, cell phones are serving as the basic cause of distraction within the classrooms. Students might not concentrate during the class lectures and their minds may wander during the class discussion. A student who already finds studies burdensome might get tempted to text or play games instead of paying attention to the teacher's lecture. Furthermore they also serve as potential distraction to the entire class if a single student forgets to set his/her phone on silent mode. When the loud volume bell rings, the entire class echoes and lecture is seriously distracted. In the midst of all this chaos a teacher might lose his or her momentum and studies are gravely affected (Partin, 2009).
