Martin Luther King's Letter from Birmingham Jail was written in 1963 in revolt against the eight Alabama Clergymen who made statements regarding King's actions and his protests in the Albany campaign. Martin Luther King was an activist for desegregation within the United States and overcame much adversity to be able be make tremendous gains on the prevalent segregation issue in the country. King uses highly effective persuasive appeals based on logical evidence, emotions and credibility to win over his audience in his Letter from Birmingham Jail. Throughout the letter King's writing shows the overall effects of the segregation with clear, heart touching examples. Imagine being in his position, where his family and friend were being maltreated and were inflicted by injustice after injustice would he not help them in any possible way even if he was from the mistreated group? Martin Luther King proves his credibility by various factors. The fact that King wrote this letter from a jail in Birmingham is a factor that proves how credible he is. He was arrested for his protests in Birmingham, hence he proves to the reader that whatever he writes about he is aware of it since he has experienced it first hand, and he continued with his protests throughout the country against black segregation since he knew what it was like.

Kings letter was an act of rebellion that was necessary in order to prove to the people that the injustices that were being afflicted on the black community needed to stop he took it upon himself to take the stand needed and give the people what was their legal and God given right social and racial rights.
Usually when convicted to jail it is because of a crime or a grave situation but Martin Luther King who is and was a paradigm of optimism for his people went to jail on his actions in Birmingham which were rational and the black community had the right to rebel and counter attacks those who were trying to create a supremacy. In his response to the letter called Call of duty by eight clergymen King used his words as the strongest weapon and laid bare the pathetic situation that was prevalent in the country and nobody had the strength to stand against.
