Introduction

Life operates on the law of change; those who look at the past or concentrate on the present are most likely to miss out the future, as suggested by John F Kennedy during his speech in Frankfurt, Germany (1963). Medical field is also not static, just like other things in life. There is a constant development ion the way of learning and teaching, we have to look forward to every change in the field of medical. The older system of medical education has been reframed to simplify the learning conditions. The changes come as a pressure upon the teacher and harder on the student, since the time changes have been adopted in the form of vocational training programs of post graduates and specialist. In the year 1930, a physician can independently practices after one or two years of training. Where as a post graduate of today has to spend a minimum of eight years of postgraduate training along with completion of medical education basics, which is a requirement for doctors. Role as a Teacher

Teaching is a very challenging and multifaceted job. There are changes occurring in medical education frequently, this has also affected the role of a medical teacher. A teacher has to adopt its role according to the requirement of its surrounding; a teacher can be counsellor, friend and social worker (Bardes C.L. & Hayes J. G.,1995, pp.111-114 ).

The model of twelve roles of a teacher has been identified from three important sources: a thorough analysis of a teacher job and what is expected from a teacher in the designing and implementation of a design of a course in a medical school (Harden, et.al., 1997), by a research which involved twelve medical students to maintain a comment dairy for three months and over to analyze the role of a teacher, and from the literature available regarding roles of a teacher as recognized from Medline and TIME (Topic In Medical Education) database.
