M3 Writing Assignment

Question 1

If you and other students sit in the same classroom, read the same assignments, and hear the same lectures, are all of you receiving the same education?  Why or why not?  Give a personal example to support your reason.

Answer 1

In this era of globalization, a group of friends, class, and any work place will consist of diverse people. Ones understanding and perception will differ from one another even if given same substance to read. Linguistic and culture difference create difference in receiving and understanding of the information.

Similarly in a classroom, everyone is given the same lectures, assignments and undergoes the same activities, yet the understanding level and the perception will make the difference that can be depicted through marks. There are some factors such as ethnicity, gender, race and language plays a part in the contribution to the class environment.

Recently, in the classroom, our teacher was sharing her experience of witnessing cow slaughtering at a slaughter house. Many of my Indian classmates found it offensive and were not able to relate the experience with the lesson the teacher was trying to make. He started complaining and arguing on how wrong this act is and should be prohibited all over. Others, belonging to different culture were able to understand the concept being delivered rather than being offended.

Researchers have highlighted different learning styles. Cognition is how one perceives the information. It is based on intuition and sensing (Spradlin & Parsons, 2008). Conceptualization is the other learning style which is on the basis of thinking, memory, ideas formation and processing. This shows ones reflection of observation. Third learning style is affect that is the picture of one's emotional response, values and judgment. Last but not the least is behavior which is the manifestation of all the learning styles.

Question 2

Take a close look at your close circle of friends.  How diverse is this group?

Answer 2

My group of friends is quite diverse. I have two African American friends, one Chinese and one Indian friend. Although we have all belong to different ethnic and cultural group but we get along with each other very well.

Question 3

Look at what is being taught in your college classes. Do the readings, lectures, and discussions reflect the contributions of many cultures? If not, how might it be improved? If yes, how?

Answer 3

The class consists of diversified students and the teacher is careful when delivering the lecture. The reading, lectures and discussion do reflect the contributions of many cultures, as now because of globalization the world has shrunk up to a size of a global village. You adopt many cultures and it has formed mixed culture. It can be improved by one getting assignment to discover their culture and when one presents in class and they have to adopt a cultural thing for a day. This would enlighten students as well as they will pick up on cultures as well.

Question 4
