CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

1.1 Introduction

The main objective of this research is to get an in depth analysis of expressions of personality through online social networking sites and individual differences in representing reality. This research work will be organizaed in five chapters, which will be explaining an overall influence of social networking sites. Following the introduction, the second chapter review extensive literature on the topic at hand and also on other theories which relate and/or support the overall issue being considered. Further, the third part of this study explains which methods were applied to this specify research and the reasons why such approach was selected. The fourth chapter presents an introduction to the chapter and critically analyzes the data with the views of several authors. At the same time, the fifth chapter provides conclusion and also explains how this research can be used for further investigation.

1.2 Research Aims and Objectives

The aims and objectives of a research project lays the foundations of the research work and facilitates in finding out the most relevant and authentic information about different aspects of the topic under consideration. Well-defined aims and objectives provide direction to the researcher to move towards achieving the most desirable outcome. Following are the aims and objectives of this study;

To explore the individual differences in how people represent themselves on social networking sites; looking at individual differences and attempting to predict social networking sites behavior.

This could have an effect on future building and design of social networking sites. Future research could be done on including other factors, i.e. entertainment, mini-games, addicting factors to social networking sites.

1.3 Research Question

How do individual differences account for different representations of reality on social networking sites?

1.4 Purpose of the Study

The main purpose of carrying out this study is to identify the difference of personality expression of an individual through online social networking sites and individual differences in presenting reality.

CHAPTER 2: LITERATURE REVIEW

2.1 Introduction

This chapter will be highlighting the relevant literature of the topic under discussion and will therefore be analyzing in order to get the most out of it. Different concepts related to personality and theories which have already been discussed by several authors will also be a part of this chapter in order to identify the expressions of personality.

2.2 Personality Theory
