Fashion during the 15th Century England

Introduction

It is interesting, how do art and other facets of it astutely manage to consume and reflect the acute details of a region's values, norms and other specifications. Not only the region, but art has the capability of defining a person's inner self, on the basis of what he or she draws on the paper. Yet again, it will be rather wrong and beyond reality to assimilate that art is merely about painting or drawing. For a naive mind, anything that depicts a person's creativity can be revered as art. Therefore, there must not lay any issue, in bringing even architecture and fashion, under the broad umbrella of arts.

Arts in Movies

Over time, technology has enabled a common individual to witness the history in a pictorial manner, which he would be able to witness, only if he were present in those certain historic events himself. This has been made possible by the diligent efforts of some skilful and talented filmmakers, who very astutely have managed to portray the society, the living, the values, the art, architecture of the famous historic figures. Somewhat similar was the case with Shekhar Kapur's movie Elizabeth. Shekhar Kapur, in his movie has very astutely managed to bring back the era into life, for those who were not part of that society to witness it themselves. Every minor detail, which would be imperative to give the essence of the Elizabeth era, was borne in mind, so that the assimilation can be easily made by a naïve mind, while watching the Epic creation. Let it be the costumes (fashion), the portraits, the architecture and the depiction of the stature of Elizabeth, every matter was closely monitored, to portray the same essence of the Elizabeth Era, which the audience has witnessed in history books.

Fashion or Costumes of the Movie

As discussed earlier, the whole plot of the movie, with respect to its specifications was based on what the history has rendered for us. Therefore, there lies no surprise in the fact that the fashion (costume designing), which was chosen for the movie, also revolved around the historic depiction of what Elizabeth attires would be like. To give the leading character of this movie, the resemblance to one of the greatest queens the world has ever witnessed, the director and the team of the movie took assistance of the historic portraits of Elizabeth I, and the costumes she would be dressed in.

As discussed earlier, the costumes or the fashion sense portrayed in the movie were in accordance to that era and period. The movie utilized some beautiful attire, which enabled the leading character to bring in a breathtaking, yet complex range of colours for the movie.
