CHAPTER 3: METHODOLOGY

The purpose of this study is to illuminate the usage of social media, such as twitter by Scottish football clubs, to engage fans. Additionally, this study seeks to understand how has the Twitter spread to the tweeters in different parts of the world. This chapter provides information on the philosophical assumptions of this study, the research approach, information about the participants, data collection, analysis procedures, trustworthiness criteria, and delimitations and limitations of the study.

The Research Function

The basic function of the research is to obtain the knowledge and information on the subject by testing particular theories which are capable of providing generalizations. The research makes predictions by relating the variables to one another. The functions of the research are also obvious in the form of applied research which is concerned with the development and application of the knowledge which is research based and works in accordance with the practice. It produced the information and knowledge regarding the provision of solutions to the problems posed in the study.

Research Philosophy

The beliefs of study is divided into three classes that are positivism, realism & interpretivism have distinct & largely based on the structure & development of information & method (Saunders & Thornhill, 2007). Beliefs research is an important part in the perception of the world. The implication of studying the beliefs of the study is to better understand the area & pursue the goal of the thesis. (Ibid)

Positivism is the methodology that sees the propositions of existing ideas with appropriate data & support. It connects these ideas to the functional values. The findings of the study of this methodology are shown generalizations like the law, which means that the findings of all investigations in the same region should show the same result. Another consequence of the methodology is that the study is directed in a value-free, this makes the limitation that the researcher is not able to exploit or be exploited by the research subject.

Realism is a direct realism & critical realism. Direct realism defines that reality is what you see & he strives to relate to reality. Critical realism rather states that the world must be seen in many points of view. The main concept of realism is to contemplate the true non-aligned in the human mind.

Interpretivism is the belief of regulation means that, for example, conduct & heritage can be recognized through the study of information, ideals & thoughts of people. This belief is preferable & cooperation in investigations into the financial & organizational behaviour.
