Introduction

There is no organization in the world where the operations or processes are 100% automated. Top luxury sports car manufacturer in the world Lamborghini, value human resource as their important asset. Even if the processes or operations are automated businesses will require human resource for just starting or initiating those processes.

Vision is the desired future state that an organization wishes to see itself in the future. Mission is the over-riding purpose of existence of the organization. Objectives are quantitative in nature, they are specific aims. They need to have characteristics like they need to be specific, measurable, realistic and time-barred, an example of objective might be to increase sales by 10% per month. Goals are aims, but they need not to be specific. Goals are qualitative in nature for example, increase sales. To achieve goals, objectives, mission or vision you need to develop a strategy.

Strategy is a long term plan of how the business will achieve its objectives and the overall mission which will successfully lead to the achievement of company's vision. Strategic human resource management is a process adopted to enhance the performance of an organization by connecting or aligning the human resource function with the strategic objectives of the organization (Bratton 1999, p.37).

Human resource management is about bringing talented individuals into the organization and properly managing them during their employment stint with the organization. If they are effectively managed a company can achieve competitive advantage (Bratton 1999, p.45). Human resource department should bring individuals with unique skills and core competences to the organization.

Importance of strategic human resource management in organizations

If the human resource is strategically managed it brings in a lot of benefits to the organization. The organization will easily be able to judge which skills they require, at what time, and the exact job description will be advertised so as to bring in the right individual to the organization who actually fulfils the requirements of the organization and help in achieving the objectives. The organization will easily be able to identify whether in-house recruitment will be conducted or a fresh blood from outside the company will be hired. For the attainment of the vision, strategic human resource management plays a vital role. Success can be guaranteed if the HR policies developed at the strategic level attain their goal. Strategic human resource management leads to following of proper rules and regulations and create strong control environment within the organization (Baird et.al, 1988, p.119). Strategic level values are given more weight in organizations rather than operational or business level values.

Strategic human resource management leads the company to achieve competitive advantage and improvement in the performance levels of employees. It helps in the development of culture in the organization.
