Introduction

The aim of the paper is to critically discuss the Best Fit approach and best practice approach to strategic human resource management (SHRM). Moreover, the paper discusses two different approaches to the human resource management that is resource based approach and contingency approach. The paper extricates how these approaches provide various strategic tools in order to enhance the performance of the origination. Further, the paper discuss the link between the human resource based strategies and the performance of the organization. The basic attempt of the paper is to provide the strategic tools that can efficiently cater the human resource assets of the organization.

Discussion

In today's dynamic world, requirements and perceptions regarding the working culture has been changed. Organizations have realized the importance of the quality human resource and they have started considering employees as the most important asset of the organizational. This trend stimulates managers' focus on planning and implementing appropriate strategies in order to facilitate the connection between the human resource and the ultimate success of an organization. Managers are required to formulate and incorporate most appropriate human resource oriented strategies in order to efficiently and effectively utilizing organization's resources to accomplish organization's goals, objects and vision.

Strategic human resource management (SHRM) is somewhat a complex process of formulating, implementing and evaluating strategies on continual basis according to the changes in the internal as well as external environment of the organization in order to mitigate the performance gap of the organization. It has macro level concerns as it focuses on the lone term objectives of the organization and according to circumstances and requirements it concern with the reshaping of organizational structure and culture. In addition to, strategic management human resources can be used enhance the quality of the functions as well as to determine organization's values. In order to efficiently utilize human resources to meet future needs, mangers follow two approaches to HRM. One is the best fit approach and the other is best practice approach

Best fit approach to HRM

Best fit approach to human resource management emphasize that the strategies should be suitable to the strategic position of the organization. This approach has focus on the circumstances related to the internal culture as well as to the external environmental triggers to the organization. Formulating a well defined and effective human resource strategy itself is not satisfactorily enough. According to the best approach fit approach to HRM, an efficient and effectively strategy is the one that can best suit the organization's culture, structure and functioning processes (Kreitz, 2008, pp. 101-120).

Best practice approach to HRM

Best practice approach to HRM has focus on pursuing the strategies those are universal and additive. According to this approach, managers should focus the strategies that have positive impact on the performance of the organization and is flexible enough to be easily incorporated with the organizational culture.
