Introduction

In the times of butterflies is a featured movie of the year 2001. This story is originally derived from the book named as same name, written by Julia Alvarez. This movie is basically a story of four sisters and their struggle of standing against a cruel leader. The film starts by showing the early childhood of these Dominican Republic sisters. Out of four sisters, one stays wither her father and rest leave for city to study ahead. Once the sisters return back home after five years, one of the sisters named Minerva meets her lover named Lio, who left her soon for joining and working amongst the protestors, who combated with government. After one of the sisters named Parita get married, then the whole family is shown in a party by President, where Minerva slapped the president Trujillo for his inappropriate behavior. Her father got arrested next day and was tortured badly. After death of her father, Minerva is allowed to attend the law school as a result of wining bet against the president. She met Manuel there and marry him and have children with him. Both husband and wife are secretly involved in fight against injustice of government. Her sisters also support Minerva in this cause and play a great role of Butterflies. Unfortunately Trujillo never let Minerva practice law and get them arrested and killed them miserably due to their involvement in protest against government (IMDb, 2001).

I believe the main motive of this movie and book is to convey the true picture of ruthless, cruel and unfair environment of Dominican Republic government.
