The term 'Labour law' refers to a framework of laws which are directly aimed at addressingrestrictions and legal rights of the employees working in an organization. This legal framework acts as a mediator in a wide range of scenarios that concern the relationshipsbetween organizations, labor unions, employers and organizations. In the United Stated,labor laws that are concerned with unionized workplaces are comprehensive and well-defined. Labor laws can be split into two distinct categories, collective labor law and individual labor law. Collective labor law is mainly concerned with tripartite relationship that exists between unions, employers and employees.On the other hand, individual labor law mainly revolves around employees' rights at the workplace.

Labor laws have a great influence on the labor unions and regulate unionized employers. It addresses and, more importantly, controls the workers' demand for better working conditions and promotes their right to instigate and organize labor unions. Labor laws try to maintain the right balance between the rights of employers and employees. For instance, it restricts the powers of employers to a point where it cannot be exploited. On the other hand, labor laws also serve to regulate unionized employers by ensuring that wages are kept at a reasonable level, or that the unionized employees do not exploit their power through politics.

Labor laws regulate labor unions by ensuring that they are banded with each other for the purpose of bringing about improvement in employment conditions. Another important aspect of labor laws is that they serve to protect coworkers from legal as well as economic exploitation which may take place at the hands of employers. For instance, employers may make it an unofficial rule to refuse rewarding the productivity of employees and staff. Similarly, they may refuse to offer them the money they deserve for doing overtime. Labor laws regulate unionized employers by making sure that their rights are protected.

A non-unionized working environment is one in which workers have not established a collective bargaining accord with the organization's management which governs terms and conditions fr their employment. As a result, the management in such workplaces usually enjoys a greater degree of flexibility and leverage when it comes to hiring and firing staff or addressing behavioral and disciplinary issues prevalent among the existing employees.
