Language Development and Human Development

Abstract

In this study we have analyzed two articles based on Language development particularly role of reading in language development and identification of linguistic problems reported by parents' in children's later life. The main purpose of these studies is to examine the impact of reading and linguistic problems in early life on the language development of children. For this purpose Latent profile analyses and meta-analyses has been chosen as methods of research. Both of the studies prove that reading helps in improvising language development more effectively in childhood as compare to adulthood and increases ones' academic scores as well. In addition, trends of communication skills in early childhood provide the stable results for later life language problems. More linguistic researches are required to be conducted in order to reduce the linguistic problems.

Language Development

Introduction

In this research, we have discussed the language development process from childhood to adulthood and the role of print exposure in developing reading and communication skills throughout human development. For this purpose, we have considered two articles to analyze language development influenced by reading by Mol, S. E., & Bus, A. G. (2011) and language problems in later life of children by Ma¨a¨tta¨. S. (2011).

Purpose of Research

The main purpose of the research conducted by Mol, S. E., & Bus, A. G. in 2011, was to examine the relationship between print exposure and reading components like comprehension, book sharing, independent reading, technical reading, spelling, word recognition growth throughout human development process. Whereas the other chosen study by Ma¨a¨tta¨. S. (2011), is about developmental tracks of paralinguistic communication skills and language problems reported by parents in advanced life.

Method of Research

For research, author has used PsycINFO, ERIC and Pro Quest-Dissertations and Thesis Search engine to collect relevant data and review literature. The collected data was measured and divided by categorizing it into publication status, publication year, continent, design, and sample size, mean of age, school type, ability level, language learners, print exposure characteristics, home literacy questioners, and correlation. Meta analyses and Fisher's effect procedures were used for analyzing the data via software (Mol, S. E., & Bus, A. G, 2011).

However Ma¨a¨tta¨. S. (2011) has conducted the research using 508 children as sample size, and complaints reported by parents belonged regarding language problems were mostly at 4.7 age, latent profile analysis is used to identify group of children facing diverse paralinguistic problems. In addition, author has also assessed the role of gender in this regard.

Findings of Research

According to the findings if research conducted by Mol, S. E., & Bus, A. G. in 2011, for children of age between 2 to 6 years, the correlation between print exposure and oral language skills was moderate and correlation between self literacy home environment and oral language skills was strong as compare to shared book reading. In addition, correlation between parent child reading frequency and print exposure was similar to the above results. However, the basic knowledge is less correlated ...
