Introduction

This essay is based on investigation of the factors that influence the approach taken to the formation and implementation of the learning and talent development strategy within organisations. The organization selected is Tesco. Tesco is one of the successful and most recognised supermarket chain founded in UK. Tesco is the largest retailers in the world; and has stores across the world. Tesco showed a consistent increase in the market share and profitability. The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between marketing strategy of Tesco and customer satisfaction.

One of the major aspect of human resource development at Tesco links with the talent development of the workforce. It refers to the entire process of transforming the employees, groups and team, and the organization itself through the process of unplanned and planned learning. In this way, the organization or company is able to attain and sustain the competitive advantage and stays successful. In various organizations, the concept of talent development is especially restricted for the use at top level of management and the fact that the career development is an essential component to retain employees at every level of company is becoming increasingly clarified. According to various studies and researched, it has been mentioned that career development in some form is the necessity of the job retention and satisfaction (Grugulis, 2006).

The strategy of learning and talent development is required to mirror and reinforce the perspectives in the human resource management strategy in a broader sense. It also aligns it with various other strategies and rewards in the overarching HR strategy. Learning and talent development plays a vital role in the functions and activities of the Tesco. There are several factors responsible for the formulation and implementation of the strategy. The potential human resource are selected as the company's success ding talent in the future and thus go through the process of succession planning with ease (Abbaspalangi, 2012).

Strategic Talent Development

In the midst of the changing dynamics of the business environment, Strategic Talent Management provides a well laid out plan that can lead to long term success in developing the talent pool. The research done by McKinsey and Company in 1997 and later in 2000 revealed the primary reason for the success of high-performing organization was their commitment to the strategic development of their human resource. The management at those organizations invested in the talented employees and established many programs that allowed employees to gather and improve their skill-set (Smith, 2006). However, average performing companies did not have a strategic talent management plan and thereby, lacked behind the competition. Strategic talent management has gained the attention of the corporate decision makers during the last few decades. There were a number of events that influenced this evolution, beginning with the technological advancements in the 1980s (Bloom, 2011).
