Introduction

The most significant and powerful tools that an individual has when it come to traffic safety is the eyes. In order to enhance the safety of individuals regarding traffic, a new campaign was thought to be designed for enhancing the traffic safety for individuals. A new traffic safety campaign was designed by Michael Beirut of Pentagram by working with the New York City department of Transportation. This campaign involves a new playful symbol along with the campaign that reminds the drivers and pedestrians to look around before entering intersections and crosswalks. It has been observed that the core focus of the LOOK! Campaign was to enhance the safety of individuals from traffic dangers and in turn reducing the traffic hazards for individuals.

Thesis Statement

“The Look! Campaign, which took the city streets by storm earlier this year, not only fit into the landscape of the urban environment seamlessly, it was so well designed that it has also saved people's lives, all while acting as an icon that encapsulate the entire experience of being in New York, which is too Look!”

Discussion

New York is observed to be the most populous city in the United States, and it is also the center of the New York Metropolitan Area. This is referred to one of the most populous urban agglomerations in the world. This city is called as the New York City in order to distinguish it from the State of New York. It has been observed that the New York City throws a significant impact on finance, commerce, art, media, research, fashion, education, technology and entertainment. The New York Cit is defined as the cultural capital of the world and this city also reflects the international diplomacy. The life of the people of New York is very busy, so are the streets of this city. It is also obvious that the increasing traffic accidents in the busy streets of New York City gave rise to the existence of the LOOK campaign.

Green light. Yellow light. Red light. Stop! 5:30 in the afternoon, the usual hustle and bustle of rush hour in the city streets. On the street corner of 57th and 7 waiting for the walk symbol to light back up. Bend down to tie my shoelaces and there it is again. The infamous LOOK! The bold white five-character graphic plastered onto the cracked crosswalk street. Two white dots inside both the Os give the illusion that a pair of eyes is always watching you. This campaign has been created by Michael Beirut of Pentagram and the New York City Department of Transportation, the LOOK! Campaign formed the symbol to remind pedestrians to be mindful of oncoming traffic before crossing the street. The symbol acts as a signal to keep people from glancing downwards when crossing. Take a close look around your everyday streets and you'll find this quirky graphic sketched onto crosswalks buses, subway entrances, and phone kiosks.
