ORGANIC FARMING

Climate, Soils and Organic Farming

Climate, Soils and Organic Farming

Introduction

The climate change and agriculture are interrelated processes. According to the IPCC, the major impact of climate change is on the quality of forage and grain (Wollenberg, 2012). For rice, the amylose content of the grain (which determines the quality of cooking) increases with the level of CO2. The grain of rice grown in environments with high concentrations of CO2 would be much stronger than the current grain when cooked (Parry, 1990). This could bring repercussions in other ecosystems as herbivores will need more food to get the same amount of protein. The soil and climate of South Eastern Queensland is different and helpful for the cultivation and growth of good quality plants. Organic farming also supports the good quality cultivation and this is also proved by the experiments presented below.

Discussion

Information about the two experiments related to organic farming is as follows:

Experiment One

Experimental Design

The experiment that was conducted was a scientific experiment as it explored the issue whether farming under organic conditions is useful in south eastern Queensland.

Hypothesis or Hypotheses

Organic farming increases the yield of the crops as compared to the traditional farming.

Methodology

The methodology for the experiment included experimental method as a number of crops were planted under the organic way of farming and the other were planted using the traditional method of farming. This helped the person conducting the experiment to analyze the same in depth and also helped it to make sure that the outcomes are reliable and valid.

Justification of the Expected Outcomes of the Research

The outcomes from this experiment were that the crops under the organic farming yielded more than the crops under the traditional farming. The yield of the crops under the organic farming ranged from 50 percent to 150 percent as compared ...
