Introduction

Late twentieth century marked the beginning of the next era of modernism. It was the time of new thoughts and ideology in the western culture. It was the century of technology and globalization which introduced the new world of media and images. 21st century began with the new advancements in all the fields of life. It changed the lifestyle of the people and incorporates new cultural and traditional values. All the practices were soon outdated. This century was a century of transition from the mechanical to technological world (Bonta, 1996). Globalization played a major role in expanding the thoughts of the people. It was generally associated with the transformation of the thoughts and cultures of the people which affected the entire world. The major impact of this media and globalization was that it shared different views and concepts beyond the boundaries. It provides new and innovative ideas to the world. Twentieth century was the century of the modern culture, forms, trends and expressions.

This was the first step that moulds the thought of people to accept the new ideas and technology. The 21st century deals with the new social and cultural interactions beyond the boundaries which provide a new concept of unusual forms and experimenting in new dimensions (Bonta, 1996). Post modern theorist provides various new and attracting ideas to visualize the new identity in the world of controversial ideas. It was never easy for most of the people to accept the changes in these circumstances postmodern theorists assist in providing the new vision to the world. One of the major innovations resulted in the architecture of the 21st century. Postmodern architecture was generate from the twentieth century modern ideology and then transformed into the formalized shapes and ideologies of functionalist aesthetic. One of such examples is de Young Museum by Herzog.

With the concept of obsolete ideologies and outdated concepts of the previous centuries, post modern theorist rejects the previous justifications of the social and cultural features. It was the time of presenting new thoughts by denying the older beliefs of the previous masters. With the new ideas and concepts there was need of new theories to prove this concept. The postmodern theorists came forward with the new ideologies which resulted in different controversies. One of the most prominent theorists of the 21st century Jameson (1983) analyzed this concept in his essay on postmodernism and consumer society.
