ABSTRACT

Juvenile delinquency or youth crime is described as the participation of minors, (juvenile) individuals who are younger than majority, in illegal behaviors. Effective intervention plays an important role to diminish the rates of juvenile delinquency. The study deals with the research question about the successful programs used by professional youth workers see to be in averting juveniles from delinquent and anti-social behaviors, to determine if social class of the professional youth worker affect their perception of a successful prevention program, experience of the professional youth worker affect their perception of a successful prevention program, to determine if ethnicity of the professional youth worker affect their perception of a successful prevention program and to determine if gender affect the perception of a successful prevention program. This qualitative study consisted of 25 adult professional youth care workers from four institutions dealing with delinquent and anti-social juveniles within San Bernardino County. The participants ranged from 24-55 years old. Thirty-six percent of the participants had a work experience of 12-17 years. Sixty percent of the youth care workers were males and 40 percent were female. The findings of the study discussed the successful programs used by professional youth workers see to be in averting juveniles from delinquent and anti-social behaviors. There is also need of research to be conducted about early intervention with child delinquents.

CHAPTER 4: ANALYSIS AND DISCUSSION

Demographic Analysis

For the analysis, the respondents were differentiated on the basis of gender which determines that 60% respondents are male and 40% respondents are female.

For the ethnicity of the respondents, the graph shows that 5 male and 2 female were Hispanic. Furthermore, 1 male and female are Euro American. In addition, 6 male and 4 female were African American and 1 female was Other Chicana. In addition, 2 male and 1 female were other white. Furthermore, 1 female was also Pacific Islander.

According to the social class, the graph shows that 4 male and 4 female were working class and 6 male and 4 female belonged to the middle class. Furthermore, 4male and 1 female belonged to the Upper Middle class. In addition, 1 male and 1 female belonged to the Lower Middle class.
