What is a case study?

A case study is a detailed explanatory and descriptive analysis of a person, a group or an event in a single situation of a specific case. The case may involve wide-ranging research of that may also include the sufficient appropriate documented evidence for the particular situation and show the correlation between two or more factors. It has a complex understanding but it is very useful for the purpose of making a model for medical or nursing purposes (Wise Geek, 2013).

A case study provides with a detailed study of a person which entirely covers his/her complete analysis. There are two types of case studies, which are prospective study and retrospective study. A case study explicates the class of phenomena that may present an analytical frame in helping to have an in depth study of a person, group or an event. It is well formulated among the tangible data taking techniques and practical paradigms. It is written in a research report that may consider all the relevant quantitative evidence and extracted from various article based evidence and theoretical prepositions. A case study provides with an analytical framework that elucidates various theories, articles and factual evidences to give a qualitative research of an object (Wise Geek, 2013).

When are case studies used?

A case study is used to give detailed study of a medical study that may enlighten the safety of a medicine for a large amount of population in a certain demographic. It also helps in identifying whether the particular object is favourable to be used or not and even provides with the cost efficiency of the particular object with factual graphs and figures from various other sources. A variety of tests can be tested to decide which result shows the best outcome for the selected sample size population (Rowley, 2002).

When there is a situation that has to be discussed in a in a preferred strategy of how or why questions, then a case study can be a very useful tool in terms of collecting data and extracting the effectiveness and helpfulness to provide safety to the particular object chosen in the case study. A detailed study helps many organizations to conduct a detailed analysis of the market mechanism and the competition they are facing from their rivals in the industry they are competing in. They may even benefit in figuring out the correlation and casualty among the objects chosen in the case study by paying close attention to the competing manufacturers. A case study also helps in retrieving what is best or worst for the object chosen in the case study. The key purpose of a case study is to give the exploratory and explanatory definition of the particular object (Rowley, 2002).
