Reinventing Government: Entrepreneurship in Government

Introduction

People are becoming less optimistic about the future despite campaigns to think positive, national and global situation seem worse. We lack creativity and entrepreneurial spirit to break the deadlock in which we are as individuals and society as a whole. Creativity is not a privilege of a few. In fact all humans are born with this potential. Being an entrepreneur by nature requires nonconformity and rebellion along with the sense of creativity. Ideas come to look for motivations. They come from different drives and different currents.

To be an entrepreneur it is not just enough to be creative. Must necessarily carry out the projects, taking risks, transforming simple or complex ideas into new jobs for humanity much like what the government of any state does. But, a revolution is currently shaking the world. The people have had enough of governments that spend excessively and provide nothing in return. People are frustrated by the bureaucracy over which they have no control, and they are extremely tired of politicians who only know how to raise taxes and cut services, but not solve problems that affect the people. The bottom line is that our government systems need a fundamental change. Osborne and Gaebler described elements, which could actually bring about a major reinvention of government, partly under the bright lights of the state apparatus, but more often, where the real work is done by government decision-makers at regional, provincial and municipal level (Osborne & Gaebler, 1993). People need creative strategies, innovation and positivity to implement these ideas to bring about a change. They need more of the spirit of entrepreneurship that can bring about a change (Braithwaite & Levi, 1998).

Entrepreneurship

Entrepreneurship is an activity that involves the discovery, evaluation and exploitation of

opportunity for the introduction of new goods and services, processes, materials, and business models. To take advantage of the opportunity requires a commitment of an organizational nature.

Entrepreneurial activity is aimed at the realization of profit. This means that the decision

to take advantage of some opportunities will be taken only if the expected benefits from the exploitation will be greater than the costs incurred.

Entrepreneurs are individuals ready to discover some opportunities to develop the idea of

how to take it in practice, in particular through the development of a product or service

that will be offered to the customers. These individuals must then obtain the necessary resources,

Design and develop an organization with an action plan appropriate for the exploitation of opportunity. Industries differ in entrepreneurial opportunities they offer, as some industries at some point in time are more fertile for entrepreneurial activity than others.

Applying Entrepreneurship to Government
