Should we eat Meat?

Introduction

The wisest man on earth was the one who suggested that there is no love so pure than a man's love for food. Such is the importance of food in life that if we all loved food more than hoarded gold, this world would be a far merrier place. With change in social dynamics over time, more and more people are not only falling sick but are also becoming concerned of their health and well being as a consequence. There is an ongoing debate on whether or not one should avoid that juicy, delicious and mouthwatering thing called meat altogether and resort to inhumane carnivorous consumption of leaves and all other sort of greens (Shaw, p. 25). There are convincing arguments on both sides.

The paper presents an argumentative essay on the benefits of eating meat in that in spite of the need to maintain a healthy body, meat makes the best food choice for many health related as well as social reasons.

Discussion

One of the many reasons why people should eat meat is that it is a vital human requirement. A healthy body needs food that is rich in nutrition and what could be better than meet which is a source of multiple nutrients. While vegetables contain many essential vitamins, the body also needs ample amount of protein for its efficient functioning. About Two-thirds of protein is contained in various forms of meat such as meat, eggs, and sea food (Coleman, p. 1). Although, protein is also present in nuts and pulses, the quantity is far less than that present in meat. Most people eat more protein than the body requirement. The protein requirement for a healthy female is 45 grams and that for a healthy male is 55 grams.
