What does it mean to be a subtle racist?

The discrimination of "subtle racism" covers many areas. It is also the employer that values the hiring of a white than a black, when the skills of both the assessed differ only by the color of their skin. Or when someone denies no reason for a black one and is quick to assert that their refusal has nothing to do with race. And he justifies the phrase "I have many black friends". Racists will reveal themselves as the arsonist who is asked: "What would rescue from a fire?" And responds: fire!

The "subtle racism" is not now publicly expressed with their negative feelings, contempt, hatred or disgust toward blacks (or other races), so that nobody can accuse them of racism. Moreover, they are quick to deny it with the phrase "I am not racist." One need to express the opposite of what is and feels to project a socially acceptable and politically correct behavior. Phrase that makes them at least suspicious of racism (Grignon, 2010).

Several factors feed prejudice. First, the lack of introspection. Because we have a limited capacity for analysis, we feel very comfortable welcoming us to "mental shortcut" to evaluate and rate others. Second, the legacy of slavery ("blacks are an inferior race") is an almost indelible mark that still remains in the collective unconscious of whites. And finally, prejudice and irrational create negative expectations that are generalized to all group members. Always wrong behaviors are expected of them to believe they are not trustworthy.

Mountain Papuans lived in the Central Highlands and were farmers who grew crops largely the same. The main crop was almost everywhere the sweet potato tubers, many of whom not only but also ate the leaves. In addition, they grew keladi, cassava , maize, sugarcane, bananas, oil and / or nutpandanus, depending on height and several vegetables. The material equipment had many similarities. Clothing was scarce, men wore penis sheaths, women, short or very short skirts. Interleaved bags of all sizes, were the main means of transport.

Between the ethnic groups there were large differences. For example in the numbers of participants in festivals, rituals, and fighting, and the geographic scope of trade contacts differed widely. In some ethnic groups, but not all marriage ties were concentrated. That is to say that there is existed for marriages preferably between the members of two adjacent subclans. It could involve, among other courage in combat, organizational merits, proven skill in economic transactions, or a prominent role in ritual or religious innovation ...
