Introduction

In the previous presentation for the sustainability paper, I gave an overview of Echi's Computing Services, as a fledgling small business operated on the part-time basis. In this paper, I will attempt to assess the core competencies of this company as it stands, and its competitive edge. Within this context, I will present a general force analysis of the organization as I assess its viability within the industry. Through Porter's "five Forces Model,” the focus will be to analyze the organization through discussion of the power of suppliers and buyers, the possible threats of entry, threats of substitute goods, as well as its rivalries among existing competitors.

Executive Summary

Echi's Computing Services founded in 2002 is a small business that provides network configuration, software installation and computer repair services to the small to medium size companies. The aim of Echi's Computing Services (ECS) is to provide needed services at reasonable prices without the bottleneck of larger service oriented companies. This context encouraged the company to incorporated sales of computer hardware into the business. Within the period of its existence, the two principal clients who bring in substantial revenue went out of business because of the recession. Since the forces influencing the organization can be both external and internal analysis of the organization is always necessary to determine its (SWOT) strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats such that while overcoming its threats and weaknesses the strategy of the organization leverages its internal strengths to explore the external opportunities (Kaplan & Norton, 2008). Thus, Echi's Computing Services have seen that traditional strategic processes all follow similar patterns. They start out with the vision and objectives of the organization, the resources, and the capability of the company. They evaluate the market competitors and other factors within the market.
