Teen Pregnancy

Introduction

United States of America is reported with the highest rates of teenage pregnancy in the world today. However, it has been on a decline and dropped by 6% in 2009. According to researchers, a teenager has a 90% chance of being pregnant if contraceptives are not. It has affected their education as they are not able to complete their high school diplomas. United States has been accumulating costs of $9 billion each year as girls say that they do sex because their boyfriends want them to do so (Poladian, 2012). The costs involve taking charge of the child and its welfare. Teenagers have been facing this issue for many decades because of the lack of education or being forced under this behavior. The following paper discusses how teen pregnancy has been declining significantly in the United States of America due to the usage of contraceptives, awareness and abstinence and how the reality shows do and other mediums help the teenagers in avoiding early age pregnancies and teenage ovulation problems.

Discussion

There has been a significant decline in the teenage birthrates since the 1990s. It has been noticed that there are negative effects on the teenager and the child. The pregnancies are usually unintended, and they end up in abortion (Poladian, 2012). Young women need help in order to avoid such pregnancies. The public today has a goal to make them aware of contraceptives and ask them to be careful in order to avoid under age pregnancies.

It has been noticed that around 900,000 Americans who are under the age of 20 are becoming pregnant each year contributing to the highest teenage pregnancy of the world. United States has to make sure that it comes with programs that help in the decline of pregnancies. The decline is achievable through a few mechanisms which involves changes in the sexual behaviors and the usage of contraceptives (Laurance, 2012). On the other hand, a major contribution to decline is made through abstinence and restraining oneself from such behaviors. Also, the presence of broad societal factors has contributed to these mechanisms. This involves the growing rate of HIV, attitudes towards sexuality and technologically updated contraceptives have affected the methods of intercourse. United States of America has a strong economy where people are committed towards their careers and want to come up with welfare reforms (Laurance, 2012). Their sexual behaviors are affected and altered because of these commitments since educational opportunities are linked to avoiding teenage pregnancies. Additionally, many interventions have been made which encourage the young people for delaying their process of being sexually active and use contraceptives carefully whenever they go for sex.

The Trends

The declines in teenage pregnancies and abortions have been steep. In the year 1986, 107 pregnancies occurred among 1,000 women who were aged between 15 to 19 and the rate increased by 11% i.e. 117 women were pregnant among 1000 women. Later in six years, the rate shrunk by 17% where 97 pregnancies were reported among 1,000 teenage women (Wind, ...
