CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

Introduction

The main objective of carrying out this research was to identify the relationships and impact of competition policy, its benefits and the rules and regulations of the competition within the economy of country. This research has been organized in successive five chapters and reveals the overall impact of political economy of competition policy on the way economy of a country operates as well as influences on functions of the economy, while recommending ways to further enhance the competition policy.

1.1 Background of the Research study

The research study highlights the political economy of competition policy. The research study also highlights the effects of the competition policy on economic development in different parts of the world. The growth of the economy brings prosperity to the country and enhances the economy that gives rise to the GDP of the country. The economic growth can be stimulated through various factors that include the role of financial intermediaries, role of government ownership of the banks and the social factors (Barney, 1991). The role of all these factors is crucial in the economic development of the country.
