CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

Research Background

Young people from the age group that lies between 16 to 24 years old and who are known as Hispanic comprise of the largest ethnic group in New York City. Even though, youth have a number of similar characteristics, yet they are extremely diversified group. The policy maker can take advantage by analyzing the population which considers the differences of nationalities, language, ethnicity, among the Latino youth, as the study tries to make sure that these young people are provided with various opportunities so that they are able to be successful and contribute towards their community which will in turn contribute towards our city. It seems that the Latino youth is going to be the future of New York City. Furthermore, majority of the Latino Youth speak English language. Most of the Latino youth are born in New-York City and around 85 percent of the share speaks English fluently. Among all the Latino groups, Mexicans are the only one comprising 13 percent of the Latino youth population New York City, have a higher share of immigrants and low share for English speaking people.

Research Aims and Objectives

The main aim of the research is to identify the rights of the Latino youth. This aim is going to be achieved under the light of following objectives:

To analyze the issues face by Latino Youth

To understand the living style of Latino youth

To understand the education of Latino Youth

Significance of the research

U.S. Latino youth, as a whole, face a plethora of unique stressors, which is likely associated with their greater experience of emotional and behavioral difficulties. The majority of existing research on the mental health status of Latino youth has been primarily concerned with examining and documenting the prevalence, predictors, and consequences of externalizing symptomatology (Obolerm, 2001). However, more recent evidence suggests that Latino youth are equally or more at risk of experiencing internalizing symptomatology, which may, in part, be due to cultural values and expectations. In order to better understand the risk and protective mechanisms responsible for Latino youths' internalizing behavior; it becomes particularly important for researchers to examine qualities and activities common to most U.S. Latino youth.
