Introduction

With the world evolving and technology becoming so advanced, it is important for people to improve response time for healthcare. The solution has been provided in the form of quick response coding. A quick response code (QR) is a new technology that allows cellular phones to read a barcode imprinted on some substance. It is a form of electronic data interchange (EDI) which stores information and data while offering access to website or library. In its simplest form, the QR is considered as a print based hypertext link. With a proper QR reader, the information can be accessed through the URL available. This has gained importance over the years for healthcare services. According to doctors, the QR code is sometimes interpreted as an interactive print which allows doctors to access library of information on patients when they require treatment. Being a new technology, the QR coding has various uses while contributing with advantages and disadvantages.

Discussion

The uses of QR technology can be used for introducing physicians, online appointments, facility tours, patient testimonials, and patient education. According to a doctor, it is suggested that videos of doctor's information is vital for the patient's knowledge. Patients take time and preferences to evaluate the doctor they want to see and QR technology can offer them that knowledge (Dolan 2011).

Another use of the QR coding is online appointments. In Georgia, health services have started utilizing QR coding in adverts. The codes provide women access to a virtual appointment center to organize mammograms. This system allows women a fast and convenient method to remember about tests and easily find bookings for appointments (Dolan 2011).

A third use is of facility tours to illustrate what hospitals have to offer. Nebraska medical center utilizes QR coding to display to potential patients information about maternity services. This allows parents to see the rooms that they can be having at the hospital simply by through a scan of the code (Dolan 2011).

A fourth use of the QR coding is through patient testimonials. A health system in Colorado is using QR coding in labor and delivery rooms. The codes allow patients access to the labor and delivery on the facebook page to share their experiences of the services. The hospital also advertises through YouTube patient testimonials through codes in newsletters that allow access to end users (Dolan 2011).

A fifth use of the technology is patient education. The coding allows easy access for patients to specific online journals and resources. In this manner, people are able to find treatments through virtual access and find the right doctor for the right diagnosis. The key is to educate the potential patient of what they are suffering from and to allocate the right doctor for treatment (Dolan 2011).

A final use of the QR coding is emergency situations. There are occasions in which a disaster happens unknowingly and the patient is hurt and unconscious. Utilizing quick response technology, a sticker ...
