Brief History of Client

When I was working in a surgical ward, there was a patient whose name is Mrs. Alice. She was 28 years old and was married and had no children. Her husband was working as a teacher. She was admitted with complaints of pain abdomen and severe bleeding. The doctor advised to perform a blood test and scanning. She has undergone these extensive tests, and after two days, the result came. The nurse shows all the results to the doctor and finally the doctor confirmed her disease as ovarian cancer. The doctor informed her husband about the disease. Later, she also learned about her disease. She was worried and upset.

Communication

People communicate because that communication is necessary for psychological wellbeing. Communication is not only a human need but a means to satisfy many. Communication between doctor and the patient is an essential in clinical practice. It is an ability that learned and not a mere problem of personality. Doctors develop over 200,000 consultations for professional life. Effective communication improves satisfaction the patient, improved understanding and adherence of therapeutic strategies implemented. This favourably affects the quality of our Care (Eunson, 2008, 13-15). It is not about being nice, or kind is producing a powerful contact to improve the pro- diagnosis of our patients. A communication efficient is the nexus of medicine based on the evidence and the actual fieldwork of all day. Communication skills are one of the four essential elements, along the cone- foundation, the ability to solve problems and ability to perform an adequate physical examination of clinical competence.

Good communication between cancer patients, family caregivers and health care team is very important for cancer care. Good communication between patients with cancer, family caregivers and health care team helps improve patient comfort and quality of life. Concerns communication and decision-making is important during all phases of cancer treatment and supportive care.

The goals of good communication in cancer care include:

Establish a relationship based on trust between the patient, family caregivers and health care team.

Help the patient, family caregivers and health care team to share information between them.

Help the patient and family talk about their feelings and concerns.

Communication is important at different stages of cancer care. Communication is essential throughout the process of cancer care, but especially when decisions must be significant. The moments of important decisions are as follows:

When the patient is first diagnosed.

Any time you have to make decisions about treatment.

After treatment, when talking about their effectiveness.

Any time you change the goals of care.

When the patient makes their wishes known about their advance directives, for example, a living will.

Interpersonal

Interpersonal communication skills should not be measured solely by the degree to which community behaviour helps to satisfy their individual needs, but also by the degree to which others provide to the satisfaction of their own (Silverman et al, 1998, 113-115).
