Introduction

English literature is the art of exposing human experiences and illustrating the command and contentment of language. There are many genres of literature that provide man with intangible benefits like efficient reading abilities, more affluent writing abilities, broadened perspectives, wider imagination, richer vocabulary and confident verbal communication. Great writers of drama, novels, prose and poetry did not only entertain their audience, but also gave them an exposure of society and its realities and the many possibilities life can dwell into.

One of the most popular genres of English literature after classic literature is literary fiction. This form has fresh writing and fresh ideas. A fictional writer complicates a random concept, giving the reader a chance to explore human experience. It is aimed at something much more than simply telling a story in accordance to typical character development. Instead, it is intended to be experimental and nontraditional.

Elements of Literature

Elements of literature are used to indicate the authors choices used to compile a work of literary art. These include key factors like theme, plot and character; which writers use. Elements of literature can also be used to analyse a writer's work. Plot

The plot is the chronological arrangement of events and incidents in the story. Progression of the story depends on this. All aspects of the plot are important. The Rising Action; where the characters and settings are initially introduced.

The Climax

The climax is where the story reveals its crucial parts that are very essential to the theme.

The Falling Action

Where the mysteries unwind and the all the clues fall into place

The Denouement

Character

Character is the second key element of literature as the whole story revolves around the experiences of a few individuals. The author's characterization can be fictional, mythical, historic entities, famous personalities and supernatural beings. Some writers take stereotypical characters while writing critically. In every story there are protagonists and antagonists and a story does not fully develop without the presence of the minor characters.

Setting

This refers to the time, geographical location and the environment around the characters. It also includes the daily routines of the protagonist characters : It refers to geographical location of the story, time period, daily lifestyle of the characters and climate of the story. The settings vary according to the plot of the story and one a single story can be placed in multiple settings too. Settings can take place in houses, hospitals, on sceneries or anywhere that the writer finds appropriate to extend his scenes.

Theme
