Abstract

This paper has given a retrospective insight into 2012 and has discussed descriptively all the major events that took place throughout the year in United Kingdom. United Kingdom' 2012 could be regarded as a year of celebrations and festivities. Some of the world's biggest events like Olympics and Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee were observed. Economically the beginning of the year was not good but later on United Kingdom's economy got boosted up and it saw an increase in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). People from all over the world flew to watch events like Olympics and London Festival. Religious holidays were observed as usual and were celebrated in all its spirit. And the year 2012 ended on a positive note for the next year.

Introduction

The year 2012 was a year of prosperity and growth for Great Britain. Many cheerful occasions were held throughout the year 2012. These events included many musical concerts, sporting events and many traditional celebrations. All these events were celebrated with zeal and zest. The main events of the year were Queen's Diamond Jubilee plus Olympics event. Britain hosted Olympics after a tough competition with some of the finest countries in the world. Both of these events not only solidified Great Britain's position across all the fields in the world but also spread many smiles and laughter on everyone's face. Economically the first half of the year 202 was not very promising but gradually Great Britain showed progress. The second half of the year 2012 brought increase in the GDP for United Kingdom. This year was also a year of increased employment. The number of employed people rose. Great Britain's performance in sports was outstanding throughout the year 2012. United Kingdom Economic Progress in 2012

In the beginning of the year 2012 United Kingdom debt amount surpassed £1 trillion. This had happened for the first time in Britain. Vicky Redwood, senior UK economist at Capital Economics, said that it is a sign for us to put our public finances under control.
