3G vs. 4G Technologies

Introduction

The technological advancements in the field of IT are much evident and take place much rapidly in the world of IT than in any other field. The introduction of the 4G technology changed these forecasts and enhanced the communication speed in the telecommunication industry to a 5 times faster communication.

4G and 3G technologies have allowed the advancements implementation of network speed, wireless capabilities and visual technologies. As of these changes there is a much larger room for the innovation in the field of communication, counting each and every one of these technologies as the base for further improvement s and technological advancements (Segan, 2012).

Both of the 3G and the 4G technologies can be compared on the following basis:

Services and Applications

A few of the technology based applications and services that the use of 3G offers are of the Mobile Internet, Mobile Music, Wireless Broadband, Social Networking, Mobile Advertising, Mobile commerce , Video related services and Social improvement services.

As compared to these services and applications offered by 3G technologies, some of the applications and services that are offered by the 4G technology are that it not only offers a better voice delivering technology but it also offers much more than this, which include high speed, packetized data communication and high band-with as well.

Network architecture

The difference between the network architecture can be seen from the difference in the transmittal speed of data that is delivered b y these networks. The difference between the architectures is that 3G technology is based on a wide area cell based network, while the 4G technology's network architecture is based upon the integration of the Wide area cell based network and of Long Area Network, more commonly known as LAN (Segan, 2012).

Data throughput

The data throughput rate is one of the most differentiating factors amongst these two technologies of 3G and 4G. 3G network offers up to 3.1 Mbps, while providing an average of 0.5 to 1.5 Mbps of speed. While 4G network offers a speed of 2 to 12 Mbps, it is also reported by some that it provides a speed of 40 Mbps, also on average it is estimated that 4G provides a 100 to 300 Mbps speed (Vishwanahan, 2012).

User perceptions

The user perceptions are found to be extremely encouraging after the invention of 3G technologies, which completely evaporated the 2G technology from the market. Moreover, the response to 3G technology was so overwhelming that the technology in cell phones has become one of the key factors for their purchases.

The perception of customers for 4G are much more complicated though, as the customers have started to enjoy the much faster and much advanced technology as compared to 3G, they have also come to realize that 4G technology only works well in some of the areas where the network reception is excellent (Vishwanahan, 2012).

Differences between 4G LTE, 4G WiMax & 4G WiBro

The launch of 4G technology has come with a lot of network choices, which include 4G LTE ...
