Abstract

In this study we try to explore the concept of “leadership of Lincoln” in a holistic context. The main focus of the research is on “leadership of Lincoln” and where does it fit in the “leadership theory”. The research also analyzes many aspects of “Lincoln's leadership” and tries to gauge its effect in light of “leadership theory”. Finally the research describes various factors which are responsible for a person to be an effective leader and evaluates “Lincoln's leadership” as a benchmark for future leaders.

Introduction

Lincoln on leadership is a very interesting book which comprises the guidelines for the leaders of tomorrow in by exemplifying the tactics used by 16th president of United States of America Abraham Lincoln. This book provides thorough and deep analysis of the leadership of Abraham Lincoln and numerous strategies implemented by him in order to achieve success. Each chapter in this book suggests tremendous leadership tactics used by Mr. Lincoln. According to fellowmen of Lincoln, Abraham Lincoln's was a sustainable and effective leadership, the challenges that he faced were not brought to any other president of America. The glimpse of Lincoln's past portray that he was not a very successful person until he was elected as the president of United States. Abraham Lincoln practiced law in Illinois, Abraham also had background of business and politics but couldn't get success in that as well and encountered several failed attempts. First leadership opportunity to Lincoln was provided by military at the time of war, irrespective of the fact that Lincoln had no military experience or background. It is believed that Lincoln had the most influencing voice as compared to any other president of United States but prior to his selection as the president of United States his voice considered unpleasant and he was characterized as ugly. In spite of all this Lincoln never gave up, stood up for himself and after the elections he was announced the next leader of United States of America.

This book focuses on the strengths and the weaknesses of Lincoln's methodologies and leadership tactics. According to author Lincoln's methodologies can be the benchmark for future leaders so their critical analysis is vital.
