Situation Analysis on Aboriginal people in Canada

Introduction

Aboriginal is the first settlers in Canada; the actual inmates. They were the Indians living, and the Eskimos who were the first to live in Canada. Furthermore, it is shameful for a rich country like Canada that the Aboriginal children are living in poverty. As a percentage of the population, Aboriginal people account for the largest shares of the provincial populations in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Since the last 5 decades, there is an increasing trend of the population of Aboriginal people in Canada in contrast of the overall population. Currently, there are millions of people living in Canada who have Aboriginal ancestry. However, this class of people living in Canada has an involvement in illegal activities and comprises of violent behavior.

Reasons of Poverty

A country like Canada may not have people living under poverty, but aboriginal communities living there are poor and hit by the poverty problem. Although aboriginal are categorized as a minority, but aboriginal are the most unemployed people which compute to be twice as much as non-aboriginals. On the contrary, during the 1998-2008 decade, people present in prison belonging to aboriginal background rose in sheer numbers. This is directly linking with poverty. Due to their impoverished lifestyle they have a tendency to involve in illegal activities, and reaching prisons on more often (Hanrahan, 2003).

Furthermore, it is also a fact that aboriginal people are not that educated. Compared to non-aboriginal people they are less educated. Very few percent of people has qualified from the secondary school. On the contrary, general public living in Canada is far more qualified than aboriginal people, both in rural and urban areas.
