Othello, the Moor of Venice.

Introduction

The tragedy was released in 1604 in Whitehall; the premiere was attended by King James I. It is now known that writing Othello, Shakespeare was inspired by a work included in a collection of short stories of writer G. Cinthio that Shakespeare may have read in French or Italian. In one of these stories appears a character named "Moro", who is white. It is therefore logical to assume Shakespearean decided that the character of Othello should be black to "justify" their mental weakness is suspected of jealousy and thus showing the alleged inferiority of blacks (racism, as you can observe, it's not a recent problem). Shakespeare wrote Othello probably after Hamlet but before the two later. The first performance of which is known to have held on November 1, 1604 at Whitehall Palace in London.

The main character, Othello, presents piously regardless of race. It was unusual in English literature in Shakespeare's time, he described the Muslims and other dark-skinned peoples as villains. Shakespeare avoids any discussion of Islam in the work. Tells the story of a Venetian Moor is considered inferior to its origin, Desdemona loves him and marries him despite her father's displeasure. Rodrigo a suitor, is encouraged by Iago (Carlos Corona) called friend of Othello, keep pretending, hatch a plan to make him believe that his wife is unfaithful. Troubled by the rejection he had experienced, it is believed the scam: stealing the handkerchief wedding of the couple and put in the hands of the alleged lover. With poetic dialogue, in a translation by Alfredo Michel, a succession of great monologues and scenes heartbreaking: "I've never seen so, that tissue must be haunted for real, what a pity if I have lost!" Says Desdemona to Emilia, who replied: "To know a man is not enough a year or two, men are nothing but empty stomachs and we just their food. We eat voraciously and when they are sated, we throw up. "Desdemona has been humiliated and beaten by Othello in public. The low esteem is the engine of hatred of Othello, whose performance produced chills to see it become the murderer of his wife. Emilia, Iago's wife, is the voice that denounces violence against Desdemona. "Diablo murderer," he claims, "she always did it fair" and reveals the lie bordering Othello suicide.(Shakespeare, 1988, 88-112)
