Abstract

Interpersonal communication becomes important for every individual in society. An individual cannot survive without communication. It is not possible to live without building up understanding, share feeling, and exchanging thoughts. Interpersonal communication can be done in countless ways. The research focuses on the nonverbal communication, especially on gestures. Gestures empower our words and make people understand clearly. Understanding gestures make a person persuasive and influencing. Gestures in human behavior are neglected every layman knows that people gesture, since gestures are habitually employed in social intercourse.

Interpersonal Communication

Introduction

Communication scholars defined interpersonal communication in numerous ways. The basic principle of all communication is to influence the environment in which we live, for there to influence the message must have fidelity that can be understood and the issuer to achieve its objective in communication. The interpersonal communication involves one to one conversation or individual's interaction with the audience. Interpersonal communication occurs in groups as well as in organization. Ideas, thoughts, and feelings drive through the process of communication. It can be improved through knowledge, practice, and feedback (West, Turner pp.292).

Interpersonal communication includes sending and receiving of messages. The process of sending and receiving messages could be of individuals or groups. Speaking, influencing, pursuing, and listening may not be only components of interpersonal communication it also includes nonverbal communication, that is the, persuasive part of interpersonal skills (Baxter, Braithwaite, pp.385).

Levels of interpersonal communication vary from individual to individual and place to place. An individual's communication is different in family and work place. Many aspects involved when an individual engages in interpersonal communication. Different concepts included of verbal and non verbal communication. Talking about communication, takes our mind to writing, reading, listening and speaking but how we are reacting to situations do not grab our attention.

Discussion

An individual speaking or writing reflects its consciousness and that an individual could work on it and make skills better. Non-verbal communications mainly comes from our sub-consciousness. An individual does not pay attention to nonverbal communication. Unless he/she willing to pretend like someone or to copy someone. It is a bit easier to change the way a person write or speak but, difficult to change its nonverbal communication. This includes our brought up and childhood training.

Non-verbal communication

Nonverbal communication defined as the process of communication without words. Language focused to be only source of communication, but nonverbal components play simultaneous vital role. Two vital aspects of nonverbal communication include gesture and touch. This includes body language, facial expressions, and eye contact. Objects could also communicate messages. Words and language includes in verbal communication, the voice, rate, pitch, volume, style of speaking all covers under the study of nonverbal communication. This means that speech without the element of nonverbal components is useless and infective.
