Introduction

This paper intends to discuss the adult learning theory through a character analysis. An example of adult learning theory through the lenses of theorists 'Rogers' and 'Skinner' will be provided in this paper. Moreover, the movie chosen for the purpose of exemplifying the adult learning is 'Educating Rita.' I have chosen this movie because I believe that the main character of this movie provides a rich example to analyze in terms of learning in adulthood. The purpose of this paper is to relate the significance of adult learning theories to the movie 'Educating Rita.' Various theoretical perspectives will be analyzed to explain the learning and development of the main character within the movie.

I have selected the character of 'Rita' from the movie educating Rita for the purpose of exemplifying adult learning. I believe Rita serves the main character of the movie and depicts a rich example to analyze in terms of learning in adulthood. Various theoretical perspectives can be used to analyze and explain the learning and development of the main character of Rita within the movie. The character of Rita will be analyzed through the perspectives of the theorists 'Rogers' and 'Skinner.' The learning of the character will be described within the paper.

Learning of the Character

The character of Rita depicts a woman who is extremely unsatisfied with the personal and professional life. The whole story revolves around the attainment of education and symbolizes the development of main themes. Rita is the main character of the movie. She belongs to a working class who is aiming to achieve education for the purpose of exploring herself. She enrolled herself in the University with the same objective. Rita depicts the character of a woman who is married and has been working as a hairdresser. Rita seems to be completely unsatisfied with her life. Rita realizing that she needs to study and gain knowledge.

Rita believed that education will provide her several opportunities which are not exposed to her because of her lack of education. Despite of her age, Rita realized the importance of education and wants to pursue her aim. She is one of those people who are hungry and passionate about gaining knowledge and are not ashamed of studying because of their age. The urge for knowledge clearly relates to the adult learning theory which suggests that people must continue learning irrespective of their ages. The film suggests that Rita in search of mature knowledge has been stuck in controversy concerning determination between the platform and the superstructure and the relationships between content lifestyle, awareness, and individual agency. The public structures of competition, sex, and category are dialectically related public phenomena and cannot be separated from one another but rather constantly appearance and influence how our actions and awareness of each produces and changes.
