CHAPTER 01: INTRODUCTION

Dentistry is one of the oldest fields in known medical history, with some of the most outstanding improvements and methods presented in the last century. In dentistry, fillings tend to play one of the most complex part requiring different types of materials and procedures for different situations and needs. This study is being conducted to understand and distinguish between the visible and legible difference existing between amalgam fillings and comparing them with composite fillings. This would include understanding the different composites of each type of fillings, and the advantages and disadvantages of each.

Purpose of research

At its basic level is to expand the boundaries of our knowledge, and to contribute to the academia as a whole. One a more specific level, the aim of the research is to understand the individual benefit and potential harm of Amalgam fillings in comparison to composite fillings. The research aim associated with this topic regards developing and establishing a comparative analysis and structure that covers amalgam filling and composite fillings. The paper would focus upon how each type of filling influences and effects the buccal cavity and that how does each influence and effects the dental structure existing in the buccal cavity. The research will view the field of dentistry and how it influences the use of different type of fillings, and what are the factors due to which different fillings are used. Although Amalgam fillings are still the most predominant for of fillings used globally, it is perceived to be harmful with a number of disadvantages perceived by the people. The research aims at understanding these perceptions, and to know what influences these perceptions, and why. Additionally the research will try to identify if these negative perceptions are accurate and justified, or simply a ...
