     How does one accomplish the American Dream?  The response undoubtedly counts upon one's delineation of the Dream, and there are numerous from which to choose.  John Winthrop envisioned a devout paradise in a "City upon a Hill."  Martin Luther King, Jr. dreamed of racial equality.    Both men craved for what they seen as perfection.  Scholars have identified broadly varying conceptions of these quests for American excellence.
