The thirteen colonies are generally grouped, as asserted by the pattern of government, into three classes--the Charter, the Royal, and the Proprietary; but latest chronicled condemnation has decreased these three types to two, the Corporation and the Proviucial. The company was equal with the vessel for charter pattern, and at the unfastening of the Revolution there were but three, encompassing Massachusetts the other two being Rhode Island and Connecticut. The provincial types encompassed the proprietary colonies, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Delaware, and the regal colonies, Virginia, the Carolinas, New Hampshire, New York, New Jersey, ...
