American Passages; A Literary Survey

The Video describes Gothic as writing about the “darkest aspects of humanity”, with terror and excitement, good and evil taking prominence in the writing. The Study Guide states, “Gothic works probe the dark side of humanity or unveil socio-cultural anxiety”. I find it fascinating that a writer can write a story that does these things. For the reader, first it is always a story. Well, for me anyway. To dig deeper and find the meanings to the stories makes them larger than life.
