Introduction

The paper by Thomas Risse, “An emerging European public sphere? Theoretical Clarifications and Empirical Indicators, is essentially the debatable and argumentative topic. In this paper, Risse has tried to summarize the empirical knowledge of European public sphere. Then the paper focuses on the comments that are given by Risse on numerous ways for conceptualization of community of communications (Risse, 2003, p. 2). Lastly, Risse has tried to introduce his own notion related to transnational public sphere, by which there research project got the guidance for media reporting on “Haider debate” in the European Union. The overall focus of paper tries to make sense related to theoretical and empirical literature by raising two important questions. The first question focuses on the knowledge of common man related to European public sphere. The second question of paper focus on making the sense of empirical findings in the light of the theoretical debates related to European public sphere. I will be discussing about the key summary of paper, followed by the key findings, strengths and weaknesses, and conclusion.

European public sphere is an extension of the term public, in the broadest sense of the totality of circumstances known to the formation of public opinion are important.
