Abstract

In this study we try to explore the concept of “Accelerated reader” in a holistic context. The main focus of the research is on “Accelerated reader” and its relation with “Kindergarten students”. The research also analyzes many aspects of “Accelerated reader” and tries to gauge its effect on “Kindergarten students”. Finally the research describes various factors which are responsible for “Accelerated reader” and tries to describe the overall effect of “Accelerated reader” on “Kindergarten students”

Chapter 1: Introduction

Accelerated Reader (AR) is a program originally developed at the University of Wisconsin and now markets software for the Renaissance. AR program is designed to encourage children to read more and to create a model of reading the daily lives of young people.

Basic structure of AR is very simple. Students take 10-20 minutes pre-test, which tests your reading comprehension. It was noted then, in the so-called zone of proximal development, which determines what to do books. Each zone, there are many variants of the book.

The next step in human resources, the child selects books in your area, and read it. The boy takes the form and two passes or not... Teachers can ask children in the program AR to achieve a certain amount of points for one year. Others simply ask that children take a series of questionnaires each year.

AR was associated with higher scores on standardized tests, and the program is compatible with many characters. Nevertheless, establishing reading habits of life has not been proven. Some studies have shown that after reading the AR program will be completed, as a rule, the seventh grade, lower. These studies do not necessarily take into account other factors that may reduce the time reading, and increased workload at home, or hormonal changes that teens attack.
