Introduction

Hypothermia is a condition in which the body temperature drops dramatically as a result of exposure to cold. The average human body temperature is 37 degrees Celsius. If the body temperature drops a few degrees above or below the person in serious danger if it falls below it is called hypothermia. This can happen quickly during cold water immersion with water temperature around 10 degrees Celsius and below. It depends on how long a person is immersed. Security experts believe that half of all drowning victims actually die from the fatal effects of cold water, or hypothermia, but not from the lungs filled with water.

Discussion

A person can be subjected to hypothermia when they are in cold weather and improperly dressed or immersed in cold water for a long period of time. There are even cases of elderly people who died from hypothermia in their home do to inefficient heating system. More than 50% of deaths from hypothermia in Manitoba, Alberta and British Columbia related to alcohol and drug intoxication. Hypothermia can also occur when a person has a disease or health problems such as heart blood, thyroid disease or, diabetes, arthritis and other conditions that prohibit mobility. With these conditions may hamper the ability to fight off the cold. When a person is tired or in poor physical condition, or drinking alcohol, wearing not enough, or taking a combination of drugs can lead to hypothermia in cool or cold weather. Drinking alcohol may lower the body temperature and blunt awareness of the cold. Taking a combination of some drugs may actually lower the body's resistance to cold. Children and the elderly are most vulnerable to hypothermia for them less weight. It's a proven fact that great people cool more slowly than the little people so the children cool faster than adults.

To prevent hypothermia should dress warmly in cold weather, find out if drugs take a wish can make them more vulnerable to cold, eat nutritious well balanced meals and exercise daily. If a person is immersed in cold water for their survival depends on many factors. They are water temperature, body size, and the work they do in water.

Symptoms

Symptoms of hypothermia are difficulty in walking, shallow breathing, staggering, bloated face, confusion, slurred speech, tremors, drowsiness, weakness / fatigue, tremor on one side of the body, and weak pulse. In cases of severe hypothermia, breathing becomes slow and shallow, a person can lose consciousness, often rigid muscles, brain damage, and heart may beat only weakly and sporadically to the point where it can be inconspicuous. Do with these difficulties, death can easily occur. In cases of hypothermia, the victim requires immediate medical attention. They can be seen covering the body of "hot spots" (where a large amount of heat is lost). These "hot spots" are the head, neck, hips and groin. They can be coated with a hot water bottle, heating blankets, towels or warm ...
