Introduction

As this paper is written there is the landmark court case vindicated in Washington in front of the federal judge. This case involves charging of Microsoft Corporation for violating antitrust laws set up by government to preserve market competition. A general overview of accusations brought against Microsoft by Justice Department was given by Hayes in Scholastic Update article The U.S. versus Microsoft (1999) (John 1999). This article explains why federal government is suing Microsoft and how government regulates businesses to protect competition.
