The greater influence of the French Revolutionary Army in Latin America over the values of the American Revolutionary Army explains the tendency to subordinate individual rights to the interest of the majority.

Since independence, most Latin American countries adopted republican constitutions, federal representative and based on the Constitution of the United States. Despite this formal commitment to the principles of the American Revolutionary Army, whose purpose was to protect the primitive individual rights and limiting the ability of the state of servitude, further demonstrated the reality in Latin American democracies the prevalence of values 1789 French Revolutionary Army, where the will of the majority was the supreme law.

Comparison between US and French Armies

Although on the surface they appear to be parallel, the differences between these two Revolutionary Armies are deep and well interpreted by many researchers. Paterson says that the bloodless Revolutionary Army of the United States has much more in common with the Glorious Revolutionary Army of 1688 which led to a parliamentary monarchy in Britain than with France, which is considered the predecessor of many violent Revolutionary Armies have ended in totalitarianism and dictatorship.

In 1789 there was an impressive inflation, war, chaos, finally settling with Napoleon's first police state. After the Revolutionary Army, the government became highly concentrated and the king's government was replaced by the National Assembly.

Unlike what happened in France, where religious dissidents were murdered in the United States religious freedom was one of the central foundations. Also, Peterson says that the American Revolutionary Army was essentially a conservative movement that fought to maintain the freedoms that had been made since 1620 during the period of "salutary neglect." In fact, Samuel Eliot Morison believes that the American Revolutionary Army was fought not for freedom but to preserve the freedoms that the Americans had as colonies. The United States Constitution was a reflection of a tradition alien to the Latin American reality. Its main objective was to establish arbitrary limits on the State to the inalienable rights of citizens, in clear line with the thinking of John Locke and other empiricists like David Hume and Adam Ferguson. In Locke's conception, the government created to protect existing rights and contradicts its essential purpose if they are misused, there to end the private and subjective application of justice by replacing a deal with independent rules which gives more certainty to respect individual rights. Locke defines the authority granted by citizens to the government as a power entrusted narrowly and with a view to a single purpose (Chambers, 1999).
