Introduction

In this essay, we would conduct a word commentary/analysis of a source on the topic “Iran nuclear weapons conflict with United Nation Security council & 5+1 group”. The issue of Iran's nuclear program has got serious attention over the past decade and continues to be debated across the diplomatic circles. Due to the involvement of United Nations Security Council in Iran's possible nuclear program; the issue has been regarded as a matter of international security particularly as a threat to the neighbouring countries (Inns, 2009, pp. 18). The issue has also served as a major disagreement between Iran's National policy and its relations with the Western world primarily the United States.

For our research on the topic, we chose the library at “Faculty of Human, Social & Political Sciences (HSPS) at the University of Cambridge, UK. The name of the library is Social & Political Sciences Library or commonly referred to as SPS Library. The library is situated at the New Museum Site on the campus in the Department of Political and International Studies (POLIS).

Discussion

The chosen source was created by Prof. Amin Saikal. The title of the source researched in the essay is “The Iran nuclear dispute”. The source is relevant to the topic and has identified the major issues pertinent to Iran's nuclear program, the role of United Nations Security Council and the 5+1 formula for Iran. Prof. Saikal has managed to highlight the most revered and talked about dispute of Iran's nuclear weapons and its relationship to the United Nation's Security Council. The article clearly highlights the response of United States and its allies; most importantly Israel on Iran's nuclear program and their idea on the notion of Iran having nuclear powers.

Professor Saikal is a renowned specialist in the field of Middle Eastern politics, political economy and international relations for the regions of Middle East and Central Asia. Prof. Saikal is a visiting Fellow at Cambridge University, Princeton University and the Institute of Development Studies (University of Sussex). Soon after the publication of his work “The Iran Nuclear Dispute”, he was appointed as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in recognition for his services to restoring peace and to the international community. Presently, Mr. Saikal is working with the Australian universities for the development of specialized Centres for Islamic & Arab studies; both as an adviser and an author (Woodbury, 2003, pp. 35). The creator of the source is an active member of a number of international and national academic organizations. Prof. Saikal has published a number of works on Iran & the Middle east i.e. Democracy in Iraq and Iran, Iran's Foreign Policy, Iran's Turbulent Neighbour etc. Prof. Amen Baikal is regarded as an expert on Iran and the Middle East region (Saikal, 2006, pp. 1).
